3. Reread the poem "Choice" (55) aloud - answer questions:
(a) What item did Ha take with her?
(b) What makes this doll so special? (Connect to symbolism - what does the doll symbolize?)

4. Hand out "Jigsaw Recording Form" and go over Ha's example.

(b) In what way are these items important?
(c) How do these items reflect the character's interest, values, and beliefs?
(d) What can you infer about this character's personality?
(e) What might these objects symbolize?
